I highly recommend requesting recommendations on LinkedIn!
𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 (𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀)?
▫️ Employment references backed by real people on your profile
▫️ They let others know that other professionals value you (accomplishments, contributions, etc.) & put their name behind yours
▫️ Carry more weight than LinkedIn endorsements
𝗪𝗛𝗬 (𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁)?
▫️ Boost your credibility
▫️ Stand out from the crowd (few people ask for recs)
▫️ Increase authenticity
▫️ Share biggest strengths
𝗪𝗛𝗢 (𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁)?
▫️ You can really request anyone you worked with such as co-workers, managers, clients, etc.
▫️ It does not have to only be in a work setting e.g. requesting a faculty advisor for a student org, a president of a student org when you were VP, a school professor you had a good relationship with, etc.
𝗪𝗛𝗘𝗡 (𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁)? ▫️ After you feel like you have shown your value to the other person/company ▫️ As more time passes, people start to forget your contributions so ask sooner rather than later
𝗛𝗢𝗪 (𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁)? ▫️ You can request via someone's profile or from your own profile (see steps here) ▫️ When you ask someone, give them context about what you are looking for and what you want them to highlight
💡 P.S. Make sure to return the favor when you have the opportunity
Don’t let others stop you from investing in your future, as shared in this blog here.
